Life Education Tanzania: Our Journey & Impact
Life Education Tanzania is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, No. 24 of 2002.
Our Vision
To change lives through education and build a community where every child has equal opportunities to learn and grow.
Our Mission
To empower underprivileged children to make their own life decisions by providing essential support through education, workshops, and vocational training.
A History of Partnership
The organization was founded by Philip Masonda following the generous support of the Ian Dunn and Wayne Blackburn families. After traveling through northern Tanzania in 2006 and 2007, Ian and Wayne were inspired by Philip’s vision to support the local community, leading to the establishment of our foundation.
Building a Foundation in Kiharaka
Through initial donations, we purchased land in Kiharaka, near Dar es Salaam. Our international network of friends and family has since funded:
• Infrastructure: Refurbishing existing buildings into bright, functional classrooms and toilet blocks.
• Clean Water: Drilling a borehole that serves as a vital water source for the center.
• Play & Learning: The construction of a playground and the establishment of the Watoto Wetu Day Care Centre.
Recent Milestones & International Volunteering
• July 2022: Mariona Ureta led seven volunteers from Spain to paint facilities and build the playground.
• July 2023: Elaine Griffen from the UK arrived with a significant supply of Montessori materials and sports equipment, providing the funds necessary to expand our school project.
• August 2023: A second group of 7 Spanish delegation, led by Irene and Reuben, finalized our classroom setup, allowing the daycare to officially begin operations under our supervision.
• 2024–2025: We successfully hosted 17 students from Adachi Gakuen Secondary School in Japan. This cultural exchange program, which includes visiting local schools and going on safari, has now become a cherished annual tradition.
Teachers & Volunteers
Our team is dedicated to ensuring that your children are in safe hands. We offer specialized care for children as young as three months old in an environment that promotes learning, playing, and growing. We understand the importance of these early years in shaping children’s lives and prioritize developing their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills.
