About Us
Life Education Tanzania (LET)
Life Education Tanzania is registered as a Non-Governmental Organization under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, No. 24 of 2002. With a vision of changing lives through education, having a community with equal opportunities for education,
The organization was founded Philip Masonda after a generous donation from Ian Dunn. Ian travelled to southern and northern Tanzania with his family in 2006 and 2007 to see its wildlife and people, and was inspired by Philip to help set up the foundation.
The Dunn family donation helped us purchase land in Kiharaka, near Dar es Salaam. Since then, they have connected us with their friends and family to support us with funds to refurbish the existing building into classrooms and drill a borehole to supply water to the centre and community.
In July 2022, Mariona Ureta led a group of seven volunteers from Spain to come to Kiharaka, they helped us paint the classrooms and toilet block, build the playground and had a lot of fun with our kids.
In July 10th 2023, we received visitors from UK, Elaine Griffen arrived with a large supply of Montessori teaching materials, footballs and clothes for kids. They donated funds which has supported us greatly in the expansion of the school project at Watoto Wetu day care centre.
Another group of seven volunteers from Spain was sent to us by Mariona Urete, led by Iren and Reuben. They arrived in August 2023 to finalize the classrooms set-up and provided us with more Montessori teaching materials. At that point, we were able to start the day care center running under the supervision of the Life Education Tanzania.
In 2024 and 2025, we organised a trip from Adachi Gakuen Secondary School in Japan. We hosted 17 secondary students and visited local secondary schools before going on safari as a group. This has become an annual trip and we hope that this arrangement continues long into the future.
Our target is to see Children from lower income families and others get access to education, as a life-changing opportunity.
Our Mission is to give underprivileged children the opportunity to make their own life decisions by providing support through education, workshops and training.
